Anaheim Surgeon Dies; Services Set for Monday

Memorial services will be held Monday for Anaheim surgeon Dr. Marshall P. Stonestreet, a former Orange County Medical Assn. president who was named Physician of the Year by the professional organization last year.

Stonestreet, 63, died Thursday at his home after a prolonged illness.

A former president of the Orange County Surgical Society, Stonestreet was chief of staff at Anaheim Memorial Hospital in 1974 and 1975.

Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., he received his bachelor of science degree in 1943 from the University of Chattanooga and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1946. Following a 15-month internship at Harper Hospital in Detroit, he was called to active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

He completed his surgical residency in 1954 at San Diego’s naval hospital and served a tour of duty with the Marine Corps in Korea before setting up private practice in Anaheim in 1957.

He was a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, according to his family.

Stonestreet was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Anaheim, a member of the Lions Club and the Shriners El Bekal Temple, and served on the board of directors of the YMCA.

Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Anaheim at 2 p.m. Monday, with private burial following at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Stonestreet Endowment Fund at Anaheim Memorial Hospital, 1111 W. La Palma Ave., Anaheim, 92801.

Stonestreet is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandy, three daughters, four grandchildren, two sisters and one brother.
