A leading Iranian opposition group charged Saturday that at least 15 senior Tehran surgeons were imprisoned after a doctors’ strike protesting compulsory service in the war with Iraq.

The Cologne office of the Moujahedeen, the largest of the Iranian opposition organizations, said three board members of the Iranian Medical Assn. were among those jailed.

The opposition group said most of Tehran’s private doctors struck last week, contending that medical services in the capital are collapsing because doctors are required to spend at least a month per year at the war front.

It said the Iranian authorities disbanded the medical association and threatened further retaliation if the strike were repeated.
