Getting on TV is one thing; staying on is something else.

But two ABC series that made their debuts last fall--”MacGyver” and “Spenser: For Hire”--both passed the test and have been picked up for second years.

Robert Urich stars as a private eye in “Spenser,” a series based on the novels of Robert Parker. Now seen Tuesdays at 10 p.m., “Spenser” is slotted for Saturdays at 10 p.m. come fall.

Richard Dean Anderson has the title role in “MacGyver,” a rather extraordinary type who comes up with solutions to problems that seem insurmountable. His show, now on Wednesdays at 8 p.m., will be seen following the Monday-night football telecasts in the fall.
