A 53-year-old Massachusetts Avenue man was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of killing his wife with a single gunshot to the head.
Robert LaVerne Thatcher was being held without bail in the county jail in connection with the killing, which apparently occurred after a family argument about 2:15 p.m., said Sgt. Dennis Hartman of the Sheriff’s Department homicide unit.
Thatcher’s wife, Peggy Jean, was pronounced dead at the couple’s home in the 1800 block of Massachusetts Avenue. Sheriff’s deputies recovered a small caliber semi-automatic pistol, Hartman said.
