Baldwin Park : Petitions Against Project
Residents opposing the city’s newly adopted Sierra Vista Redevelopment Project said this week that they will submit petitions calling for a referendum on the project on the Nov. 4 ballot.
Herschel Keyser, a leader of the drive, said petitions with more than 2,000 signatures will be given to the city clerk today .
Sierra Vista, covering more than 600 acres along both sides of the San Bernardino Freeway, is the largest of Baldwin Park’s six redevelopment projects. Although the City Council last month voted to exclude 1,500 homes that were originally in the project area, many residents complained that the city will go into debt with its plan to float $200 million in redevelopment bonds to carry out the project.
