Cerritos : Longtime Educator Retires
Charles C. Vernon, 63, who spent 20 years as a teacher and administrator in the ABC Unified School District, has taken an early retirement after a 37-year career in education.
Vernon, who served for two months as acting superintendent of the 22,000-student district, recently attended his last regular board meeting.
Dr. Kenneth L. Moffett, former superintendent of the Lennox School District, has been hired to head the Cerritos-based district.
Vernon will work part time for the district on two programs he initiated, the teacher intern and health fitness programs. He will get $5,000 a year for two years for that work. Vernon, who was deputy superintendent of the district, received an estimated annual salary of $60,000.
Vernon has a bachelor of arts and master’s degrees in American history from Occidental College.
