Cram Sets 800-Meter Record
Associated Press
EDINBURGH, Scotland — Steve Cram, the world mile record holder, set the fastest 800-meter time in the world this year when he breezed to victory today at the 13th Commonwealth Games.
The tall Briton destroyed a field weakened by the absence of his countryman, Sebastian Coe, to win in 1 minute 43.22 seconds, a games record. Cram said he was disappointed Coe was not in the race. “It made it a little bit of a hollow victory.”
