BRIEFLY : Muckey Joins Staff at College of the Canyons
Scott Muckey, baseball coach at Valley College the past four years, will join Len Mohney’s staff at College of the Canyons in the fall, in was announced Wednesday.
Muckey will be the assistant and pitching coach for Mohney, who inherited the Canyons job when Mike Gillespie became coach at USC.
Muckey became available June 30, when he was one of 23 part-time coaches to be fired in the Los Angeles Community College District as faculty layoffs took effect.
Also named to Mohney’s staff was Andy Allensworth, who last season was third base coach at Hart High under Frank Sanchez. Sanchez has accepted an assistant coaching position under Gillespie at USC.
Greg Bolin, who played at Canyons in the 1981 and 1982 seasons, completes the coaching staff for the defending state community college champion.
“It’s a good group,” Mohney said. “I’ve known Scott since 1974, but we’ve never got together on a coaching staff before, so this should be fun.”
Muckey previously served as an assistant coach under Dave Gorrie at Pepperdine and at Valley College under Dave Snow, who now coaches Loyola Marymount.
