CAVETT, BRESLIN SLATED ON ABC
ABC on Thursday announced finalized plans for two new one-hour shows, “The Dick Cavett Show” and “Jimmy Breslin’s People,” which will join the late-night lineup the week of Sept. 23.
Both shows will air twice a week at midnight following “Nightline.” Longtime talk-show host Cavett will have the Wednesday and Thursday berths, and Breslin, author and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for the New York Daily News, will appear on Tuesdays and Fridays.
As earlier reported, ABC is negotiating with Linda Ellerbee to become Monday’s late-night talk-show host in early 1987, once the “NFL Monday Night Football” season ends.
Ellerbee recently signed with ABC to host the network’s upcoming prime-time news program, “Our World.”
A tentative umbrella title for the weeknight lineup of midnight talk shows, “Latenight America,” will not be used, an ABC spokesman said.
