Costa Mesa : Pacific Rim Academy Established at OCC
Orange Coast College has launched a new academic unit designed to help business and professional people in the county deal with nations rimming the Pacific Ocean.
The new Pacific Rim Academy at the community college is a clearinghouse for information about the customs and procedures of the Republic of China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, New Zealand and other Pacific countries.
The academy “offers educational experiences in such areas as importing, exporting, financing, investing, constructing, joint-venturing, marketing and negotiating,” said one official.
The academy is not tax-supported. All programs are sustained by fees, which are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
“We don’t first put together workshops, then run ads hoping to convince a few individuals to enroll,” said Michael G. Crow, the academy’s director. “We create specific learning experiences for particular business firms as needed. We tailor learning experiences to meet each company’s special needs.
“For a very modest cost, we can put world experts right on the doorstep of local business firms. . . . We’re here to serve the busy executive who is looking to penetrate the very lucrative Pacific market,” he said.
