CBS NEWS TO FOCUS ON NATION’S DRUG CRISIS

CBS News will deploy crews across the country for one upcoming weekend to gather material for a two-hour prime-time report on the nation’s drug crisis. The documentary will air during the first week of September, Van Gordon Sauter, president of CBS News said Thursday in announcing the project.

Dan Rather will anchor the broadcast that will include commentary by Bill Moyers and the participation of other major CBS News correspondents.

Sauter said the CBS news personnel “will record in intimate, ugly, cinema verit e detail the extent of this human tragedy” by traveling with police and drug enforcement agents, staking out hospitals, drug centers, law courts, schools and street corners.
