A tender offer was begun for Petro-Lewis.
The faltering Denver oil and gas company said it would accept the previously reported $440-million offer for it and American Royalty Trust from FPCO Inc., a firm formed by Freeport-McMoran for the acquisition. Petro-Lewis has begun work on a petition for bankruptcy court protection so that it could make a Chapter 11 filing immediately if the tender offer fails.
