Getaway Car Crashes at JPL
Four buildings at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena were evacuated and two of the main gates to the scientific installation were closed in the aftermath of a police chase that ended just before noon with the car crashing through the lab’s south gate, authorities reported.
One suspect was captured and police were searching for another who may have fled into the complex, sheriff’s deputies reported. Officials said the chase took place after a holdup attempt went awry and two suspects commandeered a car, taking four elderly passengers hostage. The hostages escaped unhurt when the car crashed. Shots were fired during the pursuit, but police said no one was injured.
