The Pentagon inspector general’s office will investigate charges that top Navy officials pressured Raytheon Co. to punish an executive who openly criticized defense spending, it was disclosed. The official, Lawrence Korb, until 1985 an assistant defense secretary, will resign from his post Sept. 1 at Raytheon, the nation’s ninth largest defense contractor. Raytheon reassigned Korb from his job as vice president for corporate operations to a post as special adviser, shortly after Korb suggested that the Defense Department should settle for a budget lower than that proposed by President Reagan.
