2 Incumbents File for School Board Race
Two incumbents have filed for reelection to the Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education. They will run against five challengers in the Nov. 4 election to fill four seats.
Board members Della Barrett and Robert Holbrook have filed for reelection. School board President Richard Williams and board member Dianne Berman have chosen not to run.
The challengers are Daniel Ross, Patricia Hoffman, Stephanie Oringer, Dorothy Koutouratsas and Catherine Williams.
The candidates are members of two opposing slates--Best Education for Students Today (BEST) and the Committee for a Responsive School Board (CRSB).
Those supported by BEST are Holbrook, a pharmacist; Barrett, a former family social worker and personnel administrator; Koutouratsas, a retired registered nurse and a former PTA president, and Williams, a homemaker and former PTSA president.
The Committee for a Responsive School Board has endorsed Ross, an attorney; Hoffman, a medical office manager and vice president of the Santa Monica-Malibu PTA Council, and Oringer, a computer programmer and former PTA vice president.
Three members of the seven-member Santa Monica-Malibu Board of Education--Peggy Lyons, Connie Jenkins and Mary Kay Kamath--are not up for reelection.
