Bargainers for about 40,000 striking Communications Workers of America and NYNEX, parent company of New York Telephone Co. and New England Telephone Co., continued negotiations, but no progress was reported. The strike was the only one not yet resolved since contracts with seven regional telephone companies expired Aug. 9. Meanwhile, picketing at 14 locations in Massachusetts and at two in New Hampshire hampered installations and maintenance work, as members of other unions honored the picket lines.
