Westwood : Court Declines to Halt Project
The state Court of Appeal has declined to halt construction of a 26-story office building and shopping complex at 10877 Wilshire Blvd.
An injunction was requested by Friends of Westwood, a community activist group, after a Superior Court judge refused to stop the building until the Friends’ lawsuit against the city of Los Angeles and Wilshire Glendon Associates has been resolved in court.
The appeals court will consider the request again after complete briefs have been filed by the Friends and attorneys for the builders and the city. An expedited briefing schedule has been ordered, which means that all paper work should be completed and in the court by Oct. 27.
During last Friday’s hearing, Glendon Wilshire attorney Kenneth Bley requested that any stay order require that Friends of Westwood file a sizable bond to cover any losses suffered by the builders while waiting for resolution of the lawsuit. Barry A. Fisher, attorney for Friends of Westwood, said it would be difficult for the group to raise the $500,000 or more required for a bond.
