Paramount : Waterworks Improvement

Construction is expected to start in October on a $420,000 project to replace deteriorating and undersized water lines serving 110 homes in the northwest part of the city.

The project, which will include the installation of 6,000 feet of new lines, hydrants and meters, is scheduled to go to bid in September.

Construction could take up to a year, said Sandy Groves, assistant city manager.

The project is part of the city’s continuing program to incorporate private water systems into the municipal system, Groves said.

In the early 1970s, more than 15 different companies provided water to the city, Groves said.

There are now only three private water companies in the city. They are Peerless Water, which serves 20 customers, Southern California Water, with 263 customers, and Midway Gardens Mutual, with 75 customers.
