The Nation : Anti-Terrorist Bill Signed

President Reagan signed legislation authorizing a $2.4-billion program to protect American embassies and diplomats abroad. The bill authorizes $2.1 billion over five years for the construction of new facilities and revamping of others around the world to make them more secure. The construction program, about $600 million less than the amount requested by the Administration, was the outgrowth of a bipartisan panel that urged beefed-up security at U.S. embassies in response to increased terrorism. The bill also permits the payment of rewards for information leading to the arrest or thwarting of terrorists.
