John Tuggle, who beat long odds when he made the New York Giants after being selected with the last pick in the 1983 NFL draft, died Saturday of cancer at Tijuana, Mexico.
Tuggle, 25, a former University of California star, died 13 days after entering the American Bilogic Hospital, where he underwent Laetrile-like treatments not yet approved in the United States.
Tuggle’s college coach, Joe Kapp, said: “It had to be a hell of an opponent to beat John Tuggle.”
