PREP FOOTBALL : Ocean View Turns Back Kennedy Rally
Ocean View High School broke open a close game with 13 points in the fourth quarter to defeat Kennedy, 29-14, and provide a winning debut for new Coach Guy Carrozza Thursday night at Western High School.
Kennedy had closed to within 16-14 after John Christensen’s 14-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter. On their next possession, the Seahawks drove 65 yards in 9 plays, with John Beaubein taking it in from 5 yards out to extend Ocean View’s lead to 22-14 with 7:26 to play. The key play on the drive was a 19-yard gain on a pass from Mike Spence to Tommy Wind.
Wind returned a Kennedy punt 34 yards to the Fighting Irish 14 to set up Ocean View’s next score. Wind caught a seven-yard touchdown pass from Spence to provide the final margin.
John Christensen had 167 yards rushing in 22 carries for Kennedy, but two bad snaps on punts and penalties (14 for 125 yards) kept the Fighting Irish from spoiling Carrozza’s debut.
Ocean View’s Kurt Szuba rushed for 85 yards in 13 carries, including a 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
