Santa Ana : Man Drowns in Closed Public Swimming Pool
A 19-year-old man drowned in a closed public pool despite efforts by his girlfriend and paramedics to revive him, police said Tuesday.
Roberto Navarro of Santa Ana was declared dead on arrival Monday night at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, Santa Ana Police Sgt. Collie Provence said.
Navarro climbed a chain-link fence at Santa Anita park, 300 Florence St., at about 8 p.m. and waded into the shallow end of the pool, Provence said. When he reached the deep end he floundered and then sank. His girlfriend, who was not identified, climbed the fence and managed to pull Navarro from the pool but was unable to revive him, Provence said.
