FALL SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Dameworth’s Fourth Straight Victory Paces Agoura

Bryan Dameworth, a freshman from Agoura High, won his fourth consecutive race of the season Tuesday at the Frontier League cross-country meet at Oxnard College.

Agoura, the fifth-ranked team in the Southern Section 3-A Division, easily turned back defending-league champion Nordhoff, 27-47. Calabasas (72) and Santa Paula (88) finished third and fourth. Santa Clara did not have five finishers and had no score.

In the girls meet, Andrea Dellamonica of Calabasas was the individual winner, and Agoura upset Nordhoff, 31-37, in the team competition. Calabasas finished third with 67 points, followed by Santa Paula (108) and Santa Clara (127).

Dameworth ran the three-mile course in 15:30, 27 seconds ahead of teammate Mathew Thomson, who finished second. Rounding out the Agoura scorers were Peter Oviatt (sixth, 16:30), Brian Cano (eighth, 17:14) and Will Olson (10th, 17:18).

Jordan Fisher of Calabasas finished fifth in 16:26.

Dellamonica, the Southern Section 2-A track champion at 800 meters, dominated the girls race, winning by 21 seconds in 19:22.

Jennifer Sullivan was Agoura’s top runner, finishing third in 20:31.

Agoura’s depth was the key to its victory. The Chargers had five runners finish in the top 11 to defeat Nordhoff, the ninth-ranked team in the 2-A Division. Tally Rowland finished fourth, Grace Asuncion finished fifth, Cheyenne Zontelli placed seventh and Julie Tingle finished 11th for the Chargers.

Master’s 24, Mt. St. Mary’s 31--Cynthia Morgan led Master’s to victory in the NAIA District 3 dual meet at Master’s. Morgan, a sophomore, ran 19:50 over the three-mile course.

VOLLEYBALL

Westlake def. Newbury Park 15-7, 2-15, 15-6, 6-15, 15-5--Senior hitter Dana Simone had 16 kills to help Westlake stay unbeaten in the Marmonte League with a win at Westlake.

Senior outside hitter Sandi Kranz had 14 kills and senior middle blocker April Devine had nine kills for Westlake (4-3, 3-0). Junior Tristan Graham had six aces for Westlake.

Nordhoff def. Royal 15-3, 15-5, 15-10--Amy Skivhart had seven kills to lead Nordhoff, the defending champion and top-ranked team in the Southern Section 3-A division, to a nonleague win at Royal. Lura Braden and Sara Toring each had five kills for Royal.

Louisville def. Burroughs 15-9, 7-15, 12-15, 15-4, 15-8--Louisville (2-3) won its second straight match as senior middle blockers Nancy Hawkins and Lisa Fouts had nine and eight kills, respectively, in a nonleague match at Louisville.

Burroughs (3-2) was led by senior middle blocker Mary Ann Wagner, who had 17 kills and 14 blocks. Senior outside Tracy Tilton had 10 kills for Burroughs.

L.A. Baptist def. Montclair Prep 10-15, 15-8, 15-10, 15-9--Senior Laurie Evans had five kills in L.A. Baptist’s 55th straight Alpha League victory. Kendra Frazier had four blocks for L.A. Baptist (3-0 in league, 4-1 overall).

Notre Dame def. Corvallis 15-5, 15-9, 15-10--Sophomore Andrea Danducci had eight blocks, and Tammy Silva served for nine points to lead Notre Dame (4-1) in a nonleague match at Notre Dame.

Village Christian def. La Verne Lutheran, 15-7, 15-11, 7-15, 15-8--Heather Hepburn and Karin Yoho led the the Crusaders to victory in the Alpha League match at Village Christian.

Hepburn and Yoho had nine kills each for Village Christian (3-0, 5-1).

Pomona Pitzer def. Master’s 14-16, 15-12, 15-11, 13-15, 15-3--Despite strong performances by sisters Michelle and Chantelle Carter, Master’s still lost the nonconference match at home.

Michelle Carter, a junior middle blocker, had 13 kills and eight blocks. Chantelle, a freshman outside hitter, had seven kills. Teammate Chelmarie Tatum, a middle blocker, also had seven kills. Master’s is 3-3 overall.

WATER POLO

Notre Dame 13, Agoura 9--Scott Weber scored seven goals to lead Notre Dame to a nonleague victory at Valley College. Josh Foster scored five goals and Kurt Marsden scored one to help the Knights (4-1).

Eric Bowman led Agoura with five goals.
