The New York Mets will use extra police, most likely on the infield, to protect Shea Stadium during the National League championship series and, if the Mets make it, during the World Series to prevent a recurrence of the damage caused by fans when the team clinched the East Division title.

“We’ll get more (police) the next time,” said Met chairman Nelson Doubleday, who noted that about 300 police were at Shea when the Mets clinched.
