LAS VEGAS — A judge ordered a highly respected police commander jailed for 48 hours for not answering a telephone call from the judge.
Jerry Cunningham’s arrest Friday was the third contempt jailing of the week by District Judge Paul Goldman. The judge ordered Cunningham jailed for 48 hours. The police official, who was led away in handcuffs, said he was fingerprinted, photographed and booked, giving him his first arrest record as a law enforcement officer.
“It was humiliating,” Cunningham said.
The police commander spent about five hours in the office of the director of the Clark County Detention Center before Police Department attorneys obtained a state Supreme Court writ freeing him.
