Under Poland’s political amnesty, prison sentences have been reduced for three security police officers accused in the murder of Father Jerzy Popieluszko, a priest who supported the outlawed Solidarity labor union. Polish spokesman Jerzy Urban said that a 25-year prison sentence was maintained against Capt. Grzegorz Piotrowski, convicted of leading the attack on the priest. A 25-year sentence was cut to 15 years for Col. Adam Pietruszka, and Lts. Leszek Pekala and Waldemar Chmielewski saw their sentences reduced to 10 and 8 years, respectively.
