USX sold eight of its service centers in the West.
The service centers, which that handle medium-size steel orders, have been sold to Metra Steel, a division of Schnitzer Steel Products Co. of Portland, Ore. Terms were not disclosed. “This is part of our long-standing restructuring program to dispose of assets which no longer fit into the corporation’s long-term strategic plan,” USX Chairman David Roderick noted. The service centers employ a total of about 190 employees and are located in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Ore., Seattle and Spokane, Wash., Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Denver.
