CBS ON TRUTH
CBS and producer/director Jerry London seem to believe that one can add a dash of dramatic license to the truth and still end up with a true story (“ ‘Manhunt’: How True?,” by Jennifer Leonard and David Johnston, Oct. 26).
Goebbels practiced the same brand of manipulation in the ‘30s in Germany. The ratings were spectacular.
In one breath CBS’ news division castigates President Reagan for his disinformation and in the next they air “Manhunt” as a true story. In reference to a key bit of evidence being altered, they refer the reporters to the wardrobe department.
The White House probably thinks, “Boy, if we could get away with that . . . ‘the wardrobe department,’ right, tell that to Dan Rather.”
