The California Nurses Assn. said it has broken off contract negotiations with management of the University of California hospitals and plans to ask for federal mediation. Chief CNA negotiator Rose Ann DeMoro said the 5,000 members of her organization who work in the nine medical facilities operated by UC hospitals throughout the state are asking wage parity with the scale paid nurses at UC San Francisco Medical Center, plus overtime pay, time-and-a-half pay for holidays, guaranteed seniority rights and paid leave for educational development.
