San Diego Volleyball : San Diego State Losing Streak Hits 3 as Pacific Wins
The San Diego State women’s volleyball team lost its third straight match Saturday night, as the University of the Pacific won the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. match, 15-3, 5-15, 11-15, 15-5, 15-5.
Elaina Oden paced Pacific (12-1, 23-3) with 16 kills. Kim Harsch led SDSU (10-5, 33-5) with 13 kills.
The Aztecs play their last home match Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against UCLA.
UC San Diego played La Verne College in a rematch of last year’s regional championships, in which the Tritons were eliminated from national championship contention for the first time since 1980. This time, however, UCSD won easily at La Verne, 15-13, 15-5, 15-8.
Janet Hughes led the Tritons in the nonconference match with 16 kills. Carol Lipson added 13 kills, 15 digs and 4 service aces. Setter Kim Stonecipher had 43 assists. UCSD, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III, is 34-6. La Verne, ranked No. 17 in Division III, is 17-15.
The University of San Diego volleyball team lost at Nevada-Reno, 12-15, 15-5, 15-4, 15-10. Lisa Geddes led Nevada-Reno with 18 assists and 14 digs. Phyllis Bustamante also had 14 digs, along with 18 assists. USD is 0-7 in the West Coast Athletic Conference, 0-17 overall. Nevada-Reno is 5-3, 13-12.
