CBS and the producers of “Cagney & Lacey” should be ashamed of the shocking manner in which they portrayed the Islamic faith in the broadcast aired on Oct. 6. There are approximately 850 million Muslims throughout the world of varying cultural backgrounds. Yet the writers of the episode decided that it would be best to portray Muslims not only as extreme sexists, but as the kind of people who would murder their family members while justifying it in the name of Islam. Isn’t it time for television to begin approaching an understanding of Islam, rather than continuing with ignorant and hateful portrayals?
