An offshore racer, Mark Lavin, was killed instantly when his powerboat bounced off one wave and dived into another during the Key West World Cup Offshore races.
Lavin, 32, of Westport, Conn., who was serving as throttle man on the boat being driven by his brother, died of a broken neck. His brother, Chris, escaped serious injury.
