Queen Mum Enters Hospital to Have Injured Leg Treated

LONDON — Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was hospitalized today for a rest and treatment of a leg injury suffered three weeks ago on a vacation in Scotland, a royal spokesman said.
The 86-year-old widow of King George VI and mother of Queen Elizabeth II was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital, a spokesman at her official Clarence House residence said.
“She injured her leg while out walking, we think, and the wound wouldn’t heal,” said the spokesman. “So she’s gone into hospital for a rest and treatment.”
It was the second time this year the popular queen mother--known to the nation as the Queen Mum--has been hospitalized. Three months ago, she spent a night in a Scottish hospital because of a throat spasm but later continued her vacation with a wave and a cheery “I’m very well, thank you,” to adoring crowds worried about her condition.
