Creme Fraiche, trailing most of the race, finished fast for a one-length victory in the $163,500 Paterson Handicap Grade III event at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.
The 4-year-old gelding, trained by Woody Stephens for owner Elizabeth Moran, overtook Skip Trial, the 4-5 favorite, in the last sixteenth to finish the 1 1/8 miles in 1:48 3/5.
Creme Fraiche, ridden by Eddie Maple, returned $6.60 to win.
