Community College Roundup : Golden West Women Top El Camino in Volleyball, Qualify for Regionals
The Golden West College women’s volleyball team won its sixth straight match Friday night, defeating El Camino, 16-14, 15-10, 15-17, 9-15, 15-7, in the final South Coast Conference contest for both teams.
Barrie Dafforn had 33 kills and 4 blocks and Deione Powers had 21 kills and 6 blocks for the Rustlers (9-3, 12-3), who finished in second place.
El Camino (11-1, 13-2) finished in first.
Both teams qualified for the Southern California Regionals, which start Dec. 3
In Orange Empire men’s soccer:
Rancho Santiago 2, Cypress 0--The Dons cliched the conference title with a victory over the Chargers in Santa Ana.
Orange Coast 2, Riverside 0--Glynn Shaw and Chad Cooper scored in the first half to lead the Pirates (9-1-2) over the Tigers in Costa Mesa.
In nonconference wrestling:
Rio Hondo 34, Golden West 15--Jeff Uyekawa defeated Tim Mendoza, 4-2, and the Rustlers’ (3-5) only other victories were a pair of forfeits in a loss to the Roadrunners in Huntington Beach.
