Newport Center Vote
Our quality of life has been changing ever since the Broadway in Fashion Island lit up the sky with its sign. About the same time, we passed petitions, went to Caltrans meetings and thus canceled the freeway plans for Coast Highway. As a result of that, part of the Irvine Co’s. solution to attract people to Fashion Island was the building of Park Newport and Promontory Point.
Each of its building additions since has still not rectified the lack of customers at Newport Center. As in the past, its solution now is to add more people and more traffic to our already congested neighborhoods.
Take note of the old saw: “If you don’t plant the grass, the herds won’t come to graze.” With that in mind, I am voting no on Measure A. We’ll have our much needed Pelican Hills Road soon, in any event. And as far as a teen center is concerned, why don’t they offer to put it where it is really needed--among the many underprivileged minority kids just north of here.
