Patrick Brown, 43, former planning director for Buena Park, has been appointed Hawthorne’s planning director. Brown also worked as a planner in Carson from 1968 to 1978.
Mark Subbotin, who had been acting planning director for the past nine months, resigned effective Nov. 17 after being passed over for the job, City Manager R. Kenneth Jue said. Subbotin had worked for the city planning department for more than nine years.
Former Planning Director Jim Marquez resigned from the job on Feb. 13 in the face of a recommendation that he be fired because of allegations of conflicts of interest and failure to report off-duty work performed within the city.
He later pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of conflict of interest and was fined $500 and banned from government work for three years as part of his probation.
