Pretrial Arguments Heard for Two Sikhs Held in Air Bombing
MONTREAL — Pretrial arguments have been heard in the case of two Sikhs charged with conspiring to blow up an airliner last summer.
Santokh Singh Khela, 24, and Kasmir Singh Dhillon, 41, had the arguments translated into Punjabi for them.
Madame Justice Claire Barrette-Joncas heard arguments from lawyers David Gibbons and Robert Beaudet. Crown prosecutor Claude Parent will continue his arguments today.
Contents of the arguments cannot be reported because the Quebec Superior Court jury was not present when they were made.
Khela and Dhillon are charged with conspiracy to place something on board an aircraft that would endanger it while in flight; counseling someone to commit murder; counseling someone to damage an aircraft while it is in flight; and counseling someone to place something on an aircraft that would endanger it while in flight.
The jury is not expected to begin hearing evidence until Monday.
