San Diego Men’s Basketball : Nevada-Reno Beats USD, 81-80

Darryl Owens made a three-point shot with five seconds remaining in overtime to give Nevada-Reno an 81-80 victory over the University of San Diego in a game played Saturday night in Reno.

Nevada (2-2) had a 46-37 lead early in the second half, but USD (2-1) came back to tie the game at 76-76 on a three-point shot at the buzzer by forward Marty Munn. For the night, USD made 10 of 15 shots from beyond the 3-point line.

Danny Meanes scored 20 points--18 in the second half--to lead the Toreros. Paul Leonard added 16 points for USD. Nevada Boris King led all scorers with 29 points, while teammate David Wood had 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Point Loma Nazarene 94, Whittier 63--Steve Bruce had 20 points and 12 rebounds as Point Loma Nazarene College beat visiting Whittier College in a nonconference game. Dawayne Burton also had 18 for Point Loma (5-2). Whittier Colelge (4-2) was led by Dave Weida with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
