Region : Football Referees Attacked; 4 Fans Held

Four Pop Warner football fans who assaulted two referees whose officiating they did not like, sending one to a hospital with a broken jaw, were booked for investigation of assault and battery, La Habra police said. The angry fans charged onto the field after the game and attacked the referees when their team, the visiting Long Beach Bears, lost 7-6 to home team La Habra Pee Wee Raiders at Estelle Park, police said. One referee, Robert A. Sims, 43, was taken to St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton with a broken jaw. The other, John Plowman, 36, complained of pain in the shoulder and jaw, but did not require hospitalization. Three of the fans, Poyer Poyer, 42; Kosena Samoa, 50, and Mack Sagato, 33, all from Long Beach, were released on $500 bail. The fourth, Mary Eneliko, 36, also of Long Beach, was released on her own recognizance, police said.
