Stop Backing Rebels, Vietnamese Tell Thais
ARANYAPRATHET, Thailand — Vietnamese troops on Sunday warned Thailand against continuing to support Cambodian guerrillas.
A loudspeaker broadcast and leaflets shot from cannon near this border town appealed to Thailand to refuse sanctuary to the guerrillas and warned that it would bear the “consequences” if it refuses.
Vietnam, which invaded Cambodia in December, 1978, and installed the People’s Republic of Kampuchea government, has about 140,000 soldiers in Cambodia.
Guerrillas of a U.N.-recognized coalition government of Cambodia are based along the Thai-Cambodian border, and Vietnamese troops frequently intrude into Thailand to pursue the rebels.
