STATISTICAL WATCH : Sollom, Barrett Are Top Passers During Playoffs

Canyon’s Ken Sollom completed 39 of 64 passes for 634 yards, 6 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 3 Coastal Conference playoff games. A senior, Sollom finished the season 165 of 288 for 2,884 yards, 29 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 13 games. . . . In three Northwestern Conference playoff games, Jeff Barrett of Burroughs has been the most prolific quarterback in the Valley, completing 47 of 85 passes for 660 yards, 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Barrett, a junior, finished the season 165 of 272 for 2,734 yards, 20 touchdowns and 16 interceptions in 13 games. . . . In the City Section playoffs, Jeremy Leach of Granada Hills completed 33 of 52 for 269 yards with 2 touchdowns and no interceptions in two games. Leach, a junior, finished the season 114 for 188 for 1,325 yards, 14 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 11 games. . . . Senior quarterback Darren Del’Andrae of Calabasas completed 34 of 59 passes for 516 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in three Desert-Mountain Conference games. He finished the season 123 of 234 for 1,701 yards, 12 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 13 games.

Rushing: Although Harvard running back Andy Bell managed only 19 yards on nine carries in last Friday’s Desert-Mountain Conference semifinal loss to St. Joseph, he had 1,858 yards on 248 carries (a 7.5 average) in 13 games. . . . Running back Khalid Ali rushed for 286 yards on 46 carries in 2 playoff games. The Granada Hills senior had 1,388 yards and 18 touchdowns on 192 carries (a 7.2 average) in 11 games.

Receiving: Canyon’s Chad Zeigler had 16 receptions for 355 yards and 4 touchdowns in 3 playoff games and finished the season with 46 receptions for 896 yards and 14 touchdowns in 10 games. . . . Brian Kaloustian and Pat Lynch of Burroughs continued their good play in the postseason. Kaloustian had 15 catches for 246 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Lynch had 12 catches for 238 yards and 4 touchdowns in 3 playoff games. For the season, Kaloustian had 53 receptions for 1,167 yards and 8 touchdowns, and Lynch finished with 56 catches, 894 yards and 9 touchdowns. . . . In three playoff games, senior receiver Tony Sirkin of Calabasas had 11 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. Sirkin had 47 catches for 806 yards and 8 touchdowns in 13 games. . . . In the City Section playoffs, Sean Brown, a Granada Hills junior, had 10 catches for 87 yards in 2 games and finished the season with 40 catches for 486 yards and 5 touchdowns in 11 games.

Defense: In last week’s loss to Banning, Kennedy allowed 198 total yards, the most given up by Kennedy all season. Kennedy held opponents to 91.5 yards a game, the best in the Valley. . . . Reseda limited Los Angeles to 21 yards rushing and 98 yards overall in a 35-13 win last week in a City Section 2-A semifinal. The Regents have allowed 80 points in 11 games.

Boys basketball: Don MacLean, Simi Valley High’s 6-10 center, has started the season with a hot hand. In Simi Valley’s first four victories, MacLean has converted 41 of 52 field goal attempts (78.8%). . . . In San Fernando’s 60-57 loss to Cleveland last week, Shelton Boykin was in early foul trouble and was held scoreless for the first time in his three-year varsity career. But in San Fernando’s 85-69 win over Van Nuys, Boykin led the Tigers with 33 points and 15 rebounds.

Girls basketball: Simi Valley guard Kristie Sterbens has 19 assists in four games this season to boost her career total to 199, eclipsing the school record of 185, held by Jeanette Zimmer. Pioneer forward Julie Arlotto is shooting 59.3% from the floor (35 of 59) and is averaging 21.5 points per game.
