Yossi Sarid, a prominent left-wing legislator, suffered a minor heart attack after a heated debate in the Israeli Parliament and was in stable condition at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Israel radio said Sarid collapsed after a Parliament discussion of state censorship on films and plays in Israel.

Sarid, 46, often launches battles for human rights issues and frequently speaks in Parliament to defend his political views. A constant contributor to the local and foreign press, Sarid is one of the leaders of the opposition Citizen’s Rights Movement, which has four seats in the 120-seat Parliament.
