TV Anchors
Prof. Neil Postman of New York University (Editorial Pages, Nov. 24) ought to know that 90% of TV’s news anchors are not news reporters but only glorified readers of what some writer has written.
Their pretty faces and sonorous voices are too valuable to risk covering a story and the majority couldn’t write a story if they had to.
Oh, yes, there are exceptions, some who have a genuine news background like Dan Rather, Connie Chung and Sam Donaldson, but most are merely show-biz personalities.
