Iraqi Air Raid Hits Homes, Factory in Iran
MANAMA, Bahrain — Iraqi warplanes pounded targets southwest of Tehran on Tuesday, killing 22 civilians and wounding 48 others, Iran officials reported.
The Iranian news agency IRNA said the aircraft attacked “residential and industrial areas” in Dorud, near Arak, about 150 miles southwest of the capital.
It said 15 houses were destroyed, and that rescue workers were digging through debris for victims.
In Baghdad, a military spokesman said the planes attacked a cement factory in Dorud before returning safely to base.
IRNA also reported heavy artillery duels between Iranian and Iraqi gunners along the war front Tuesday. It quoted a military communique as saying that a number of Iraqi troops were killed and a convoy of vehicles transporting tanks took heavy losses.
