Empire League Play to Open Today
The race for the Empire League boys’ basketball championship will begin at 3:15 today when the eight-team league opens play in the Anaheim Convention Center with four games.
Katella High School, ranked sixth in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. poll, plays Cypress in the final game of the evening at 8:30. The Knights (7-1) won the Laguna Beach Tournament and were runners-up in the Sonora-Sunny Hills Tournament.
Two of the league’s top players--Bond Weaver of Cypress and Eric Glade of El Dorado--are coming off ankle injuries and are questionable for their openers. Katella is the defending league champion.
Today’s schedule:
3:15 p.m.--Loara vs. Esperanza; 5--Pacifica vs. Kennedy; 6:45--El Dorado vs. Los Alamitos; 8:30--Cypress vs. Katella.
