Richard Andrade, condemned to die for the savage stabbing death of a female bar owner who tried desperately to resist his attempted sexual assault by jabbing him with a ballpoint pen, was executed by injection early today at the Texas state prison in Huntsville. Andrade, 25, had requested no witnesses be allowed at his execution and “cried and cried and cried” when he learned reporters would watch him die. The Supreme Court rejected Andrade’s final appeal, clearing the way for his execution for killing the Corpus Christi bar owner, a crime he said he didn’t remember because he was high on heroin.
