San Diego High School Basketball : Morse Readies for Busy Weekend With a 71-48 Win Over Lincoln

The Morse High School boys’ basketball team tuned up Wednesday for weekend games against two Los Angeles schools with a 71-48 victory over Lincoln at Morse.

Banning and Pasadena Muir travel to San Diego to play Morse and Sweetwater Friday and Saturday. “We want to show the San Diego kids a different kind of ball,” said Morse Coach Ron Davis. “The L.A. teams play the best ball in all of California and if we plan on doing anything in the state tournament, we’ll have to play these types of teams.”

Morse (2-0), considered one of San Diego County’s top teams, will play Banning at 6 p.m. Friday. Sweetwater will play Muir at 8 p.m. Both games will be at Sweetwater. The teams move to Morse Saturday with Sweetwater playing Banning at 6 p.m. and Morse playing Muir at 8.

On Wednesday, Morse jumped to a 15-4 first-quarter lead. Willie Russell had 16 points and Rey Parson added 15 for Morse.

METRO MESA LEAGUE

Chula Vista 56, Mar Vista 45-- James McCurty scored 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in a reserve role to lead Chula Vista (4-2) in its league opener at Chula Vista. Tommy McKinney added 14 for Chula Vista. Todd Habel led Mar Vista (0-2 in league) with 13 points.

NONLEAGUE

Ramona 77, Temecula Valley 56-- John Schweitzer led Ramona with 16 points and 10 rebounds at Ramona. Chad Nelson had 12 of his 13 points in the first half as Ramona (4-3) led, 40-21. Kenney Pendell added 11 points and Mark Conley had 10.

GIRLS

Point Loma 64, Vista 42-- Despite being in constant foul trouble, Terri Mann scored 23 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Point Loma (7-0). Liza Carillo added 18 points and 9 rebounds. Dana Christofferson had 15 points for Vista (7-1).
