A fire at an electronics firm near Van Nuys Airport injured two employees Monday morning and caused at least $50,000 damage, the Los Angeles City Fire Department said.

It took 19 fire companies about an hour to extinguish the fire at Arbco Electronics, 7820 North Gloria Ave., Van Nuys. The firm manufacturers electronic circuit boards.

One employee suffered burns and blisters on his hands when he tried to put out flames with a fire extinguisher, and the other experienced breathing difficulties, fire officials said. Both were treated and released from Valley Presbyterian Hospital.

For a time, the fire threatened a chemical storage room, but it was contained to a 2,500 square-foot section of the electronics firm and no evacuations were ordered.
