Canadian Sports Minister Otto Jelinek said he expects National Hockey League club owners to loan players to Team Canada for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
“I am discussing the matter with Canadian NHL owners,” said Jelinek, adding that his first approach was to try to get the NHL to change its schedule to make players available during the Olympics.
Jelinek admitted a couple of club owners he had talked to had balked at the idea, but most had said they would look at their league schedules and consider the importance of their league games at the time.
